Ο μεταφραστής καλείται να αποδώσει στη γλώσσα του ένα κείμενο. Ακόμα και το πιο απλό κείμενο όμως έχει τις δυσκολίες του: γλωσσικές, γραμματικές και κυρίως πολιτισμικές. Στο παρελθόν είχαμε μόνο έντυπες πηγές, πράγμα που δυσχέραινε τις παραδόσεις και την ποιότητα.
